Using Bicycles to Fight Poverty

Our Mission: Turn Around Bikes is dedicated to donating bicycles to individuals, families, and children in Weld County to help alleviate the stresses of everyday transportation needs.  We believe that providing bicycles to people who are in crisis improves their ability to be independent, healthy, and productive, while providing an efficient and cost effective means of transportation.

In order to accomplish our mission of helping people acquire transportation, Turn Around Bikes hosts  weekly repair and maintenance workshops open to any teen who is interested in learning how to work on repairing and maintaining bicycles while having a safe, fun, relaxed environment to socialize with friends and adult role models.  The workshops are run by adult leaders, who facilitate a comfortable environment to learn bicycle mechanic skills, and provide supervision, support, and mentoring to the teen volunteers.

Then, we have partnered with organizations in Weld County that provide services for individuals and families who are in crisis.  These organizations' case managers fill out and submit an application on behalf of a client who has no other option for reliable transportation.  When the bicycle is safe to ride and completed, Turn Around Bikes gives the bicycle away for free to the applicant, in order to help turn around that person's life.
